On the morning of February the 13th 2010 after many months of preparation, approximately 15,000 soldiers from 7 different nations launched what was described by General Stanley McChrystal as the largest offensive against the Taliban since the start of the Afghan war in 2001.
The main target of the offensive was the town of Marjah which had been controlled by the Taliban under sharia law for a number of years. It is believed that during this time Marjah produced as much as 40% of the worlds heroin supply and it was our objective to put an end to this.
During this time I was serving as part of 3 troop the Household Cavalry Regiment as part of the armoured reconnaissance element of the 11th light brigade.
The following pictures were taken between 2nd February and 1st of May 2010.
